Independent Presbyterian, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1849. Setting: 60-acre suburban campus with easy access to Dallas-Fort Worth. Endowment: $97.5 million. Research spending 2003-04: $97,314. Educational spending 2003-04: $9576 per student. Total enrollment: 1,323. Faculty: 132 (93 full-time, 39 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 12:1. 1,475 applied, 69% were admitted. 46% from top 10% of their high school class, 77% from top quarter, 96% from top half. 5 National Merit Scholars, 10 valedictorians. Full-time: 1,279 students, 55% women, 45% men. Part-time: 9 students, 78% women, 22% men. Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper. Social organizations: 50 open to all; local fraternities, local sororities; 21% of eligible men and 19% of eligible women are members. Most popular organizations: Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Campus Activity Board, Indian Cultural Association, Student Development Board, International Relations Club. Major annual events: Homecoming, Earth Day, Spring Fest. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices and patrols, late night transport-escort service, controlled dormitory access. 951 college housing spaces available; 913 were occupied in 2003-04. Community Environment:

Sherman, population 35,000, is a retail trade and industrial center located in north central Texas 60 miles north of Dallas. The climate is mild and temperate. The average annual temperature is 64 degrees. Two bus lines, and U.S. Highways 82 and 75 serve the area. The community has a library, two hospitals, a shopping mall, two theatres, and various civic and fraternal organizations. Local recreation includes golf, bowling, skating, hunting, and on Lake Texoma with a 1,250 mile shoreline, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and boating. Part-time employment is available.
