Glenn Knudsvig Memorial Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To encourage teaching profession of classics by providing educational fund for deserving teacher and undergraduate or graduate member of the American Classical League. Focus: Classical studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a current JCL sponsor who attended the most recent NJCL convention; teacher of Latin, Greek or Classics with less than five years classroom experience and has never attended an ACL Institute; graduate student who plans to teach K-12 Latin, Greek or Classics; teacher whose students participated in the 2007 National Latin Exam and has never attended an ACL Institute. Criteria: Recipient is chosen based on merit.
Funds Avail.: $1,000 covering expenses on registration, room, board on campus and travel for Annual ACL Institute. To Apply: Application form and instructions are available at the website. Deadline: January 15.
Arthur Patch McKinlay Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide educational fund for deserving teachers, undergraduate or graduate members of the American Classical League as they pursue careers in teaching classics. Focus: Classical studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be an ACL member for the preceding three years and planning to teach classics at elementary through secondary level for the school year 2008-2009. Criteria: Recipient is chosen based on a review of proposed bonafide study program.
Funds Avail.: $1,500 covering expenses on registration, room, board on campus and the cost of transportation. To Apply: Application form and instructions are available at the website. Deadline: January 15.
Ed Phinney Commemorative Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide educational fund for deserving teachers, undergraduate or graduate members of the American Classical League. Focus: Classical studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a current member of The American Classical League; must also have been an ACL member for year prior to applying (if applying to attend ACL Institute for the first time, only current ACL membership required.) Criteria: Award is given to an eligible and proficient undergraduate classic major or graduate student of classics intending to teach at the elementary through college level.
