Sostres (Maluquer), Josep Maria
Sostres (Maluquer), Josep Maria (1915–84). Catalan architect. He and others formed Grupo R in 1952 to resurrect and promote the Modern Movement, while he also (an apparent contradiction) galvanized interest in the works of the ‘anti-Rationalist’ Gaudí. His architectural output was small, but included admired buildings including the Agustí House, Sitges (1953–5), the Casa M. M. I., Barcelona (1955–8), the Hotel Maria Victoria, Puigcerdà (1956–7), the El Noticiero Universal Newspaper Offices, Barcelona (1963–5), and the Xampeny and Campana Houses, Ventola, Gerona (1971–3), all in Spain.
