prawns Shellfish of various tribes of suborder Macrura. Large fish of species of Palaemonidae, Penaeidae, and Pandalidae are prawns; smaller ones are shrimps. A 100‐g portion (250 g with shell) is a rich source of protein, niacin, and selenium; a good source of calcium; contains 1600 mg of sodium; supplies 110 kcal (460 kJ).
