opus Alexandrinum. Type of church paving found from C4 to C13 consisting of black, porphyry, serpentine, and other marble slabs, cut to simple geometrical shapes and inlaid in paving-slabs of a light colour in repetitive geometrical patterns, sometimes with guilloche, and occasionally including opus sectile.
