Herland, William
Herland, William (fl. 1332–d. 1375). English carpenter. In 1332 he was making moulds for St Stephen's Chapel, Westminster. He worked at Eltham and Windsor Castles in 1350, and seems to have been appointed the King's Chief Carpenter in 1354. He supervised carpentry works at the Tower of London and Westminster Palace, and designed the Great Hall roof and other works at Windsor Castle, Berks. (1355–7). He was also involved at Hadleigh Castle, Essex, Rotherhithe Manor, near London, Rochester Castle, Kent, and the Tower of London.
