Ellis, Peter (1804–84). English architect, known for two office-buildings in Liverpool. Oriel Chambers, Water Street (1864), has a cast-iron frame supporting shallow brick-vaulted floors and stone-faced elevations with canted oriel-windows of metal and glass. The office-building at 16 Cook Street (1866) has a rear elevation of iron and glass with a spiral staircase set within an iron-and-glass curtain-wall that is remarkably advanced for its time.
