choir-stall. Raised seat, one of a series of fixed stalls in a choir, backing on to a choir-screen (where there are choir-aisles) and on to a pulpitum where that exists. In cathedrals choir-stalls have rich canopies of open-work, enhanced with pinnacles and ornament. Seats were usually hinged, with brackets (misericords) underneath.
