Attic storey

views updated

Attic storey. In Classical architecture, a storey erected over the main entablature, often with an Attic Order relating to the Orders below, but sometimes treated very plainly, as in the Attic storey of a triumphal arch, or the Attic of the Choragic Monument of Thrasyllus, Athens (added 279 BC). It should not be confused with a garret. A room within an Attic storey proper is an Attic-chamber.
