A TECHNICALLY DEMANDING EFFORT
Video editing requires extensive computer resources. High-end professional non-linear editing systems rely on expensive separate video boards with sophisticated video capture chips. All systems require fast processors—the most advanced use multiprocessing to manipulate the torrent of digital data. Video and audio are both best handled in memory-heavy systems with hundreds of megabytes of RAM (random access memory). Editors always want access to more material at higher resolutions, increasing the pressure for more hard drive space. Higher-resolution video requires high-speed interconnections capable of moving data between devices at speeds of between four hundred megabits and one gigabit per second.
