Sidelights

Lynda Graham-Barber once explained: "As an editor for about eight years, I became increasingly motivated to work on my own projects. Twice I quit work to try my hand at freelance writing, and both times I returned to a full-time position and the security that comes with a job. In my case, the third time was charmedthe New York Times bought one of my articles, and that turned into a book. The subject was kit furniture; my husband and I had just assembled an apartment full of antique reproductions from kits. This book wasas are all my books and articlesthe outgrowth of a personal interest and venture that I wanted to share with a general readership.

"Any measure of success I've had as a writer can be attributed to two factors: alert antennae and an ability to translate ideas lucidly, with care and enthusiasm. Editors appreciate eager awareness. I hope to continue to write for both adult and juvenile audiences."
