triple test (trip-ŭl) n. a prenatal screening test for Down's syndrome and spina bifida, which can be performed between the 15th and 20th weeks of pregnancy. It measures levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), unconjugated oestriol (uE3), and human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) in maternal serum.
