siderosis Accumulation of the iron‐storage protein, haemosiderin, in liver, spleen, and bone marrow in cases of excessive red cell destruction and on diets exceptionally rich in iron. It is common among the Bantu, apparently owing to intakes of about 100 mg of iron daily from iron cooking pots and pombé. See also haemochromatosis; iron storage.
