human menopausal gonadotrophin (HMG, menotrophin) n. a gonadotrophin combining the actions of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, which is extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women and administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection to treat infertility caused by underactivity of the pituitary gland and to stimulate the ovaries in women undergoing fertility treatment. Trade names: Menogon, Menopur.
