APEL (APL) n. Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning: a system for the award of credit, based on previous experience and learning, that enables students to avoid repetition of assessment and to maximize their learning potential. Evidence for the learning and experience must be provided for scrutiny. The level at which learning and experience are valued is measured using education-based tariffs. See also CATS.
