See index for CA sketch: Born July 11, 1924, in Washington, DC; died of complications from Alzheimer's disease, October 2, 2006, in Bozman, MD. Business owner and author. Founder of the Claxton Walker Builder company, Walker was a pioneer in the field of home inspection and a founding member of the American Society of Home Inspectors. He came from a long line of American builders whose members were constructing homes even before the Revolutionary War. Walker served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and saw action in the Pacific theater battles of Iwo Jima, Tinian, and Saipan. After the war, he earned a B.S. from the University of Maryland in 1953 while working as a teacher and coach at the Longfellow School in Bethesda, Maryland. He founded his construction company in 1957, and in the 1960s created the Claxton Walker and Associates home inspection company. At the time, home inspections was a novel service to real estate buyers. Walker further helped establish the field through his work with the American Society of Home Inspectors. Later in life, he ran a ship's store in Galesville, Maryland, and was an active yachtsman. Walker was the coauthor of Buying Your House: A Complete Guide to Inspection and Evaluation (1975) and Wage the Energy War at Home (1978).
