TESSENDORF, K(enneth) C(harles) 1925-2003
OBITUARY NOTICE—See index for CA sketch: Born August 18, 1925, in Neenah, WI; died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis March 6, 2003, in Falls Church, VA. Travel agent and author. Tessendorf wrote a number of books on popular history. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II before graduating with a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. After college he worked briefly as a reservationist with American Airlines before joining the U.S. State Department as a diplomatic courier for two years. Beginning in 1955, he worked as a travel counselor and agent, and later manager, at Enzor Travel Service in Arlington, Virginia, retiring in 1985. Tessendorf was the author of several books on various historical topics, including Look Out! Here Comes the Stanley Steamer (1984) and Uncle Sam in Nicaragua: A History (1987). Some of his books, including Barnstormers and Daredevils (1988) and Over the Edge: Flying with the Arctic Heroes (1998), were written for young readers, and the former was a Junior Literary Guild selection.
