CAREER:

Former teacher at University of Massachusetts at Boston, Hollins College, and Old Dominion University; California State University, Chico, member of English faculty, beginning 1992, became professor emeritus, and director of creative writing program. MacDowell Colony, fellow; American Academy in Rome, visiting artist-scholar; Sweet Briar College, Banister writer in residence; Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, summer faculty member; teacher at other writing workshops.

AWARDS, HONORS:

Grant from National Endowment for the Arts; Virginia Prize; two Strousse Awards, Prairie Schooner; Pushcart Prize; Gertrude B. Claytor Prize, Poetry Society of America; Robert H. Winner and Ruth Lake Memorial Awards.
