OBITUARY NOTICE—See index for CA sketch: Born October 15, 1917, in Glen Ellyn, IL; died of complications from a stroke January 13, 2003, in Santa Monica, CA. Publisher, editor, marketing executive, and professional athlete. MacLeod's career primarily involved the publishing business. He was the editorial director and executive publisher of Teen magazine from about 1965 to 1976, then worked as a senior vice president of Teen's parent organization, the Petersen Publishing Company, from 1976 through the mid-1990s. Throughout the 1950s MacLeod had been a vice president and advertising director with the Hearst Corporation, publisher of magazines like Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar, and Popular Mechanics. He was the publisher of Seventeen magazine in the early 1960s. For a brief period prior to his military service during World War II, MacLeod played professional football with the Chicago Bears and professional basketball with the Chicago Bruins. He also worked briefly in the 1960s as marketing director of Subscription Television, a precursor to the present-day cable television business.
