SIDELIGHTS: Several years before writing his first book, Wall Street Wizard: Sound Ideas from a Savvy Teen Investor, twelve-year-old Jay Liebowitz created a unique software program. He sold the program to a large company for 30,000 dollars, then invested the money in shares of an office supply company stock. Although the stock did poorly, young Liebowitz learned from the experience, and has since become something of a stock market wizard; instead of relying on corporate newsletters, he learned to research companies himself and determine their strengths and long-term goals. In 1996 Liebowitz developed his own Web site which he gears toward helping other financially savvy teens pursue their own investing goal.
Jonathan Betz-Zall, in a review of Liebowitz's Wall Street Wizard for School Library Journal, called the book "a clear-sighted, pragmatic investment manual for students who are interested in making money and know a bit about how the economy works." In the book Liebowitz touches on the basic concepts of investing, financial planning, managing stocks, and starting a company. The author advocates conducting one's own research in order to determine where to invest and what other investment advice to follow.
