See index for CA sketch: Born July 6, 1921, in Omaha, NE; died of congestive heart failure, March 15, 2006, in Hilton Head, SC. Journalist and author. Jordan was a former reporter and editor for the Washington Post and National Geographic.After serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps duringWorld War II, he graduated from Washington University in 1947. He was hired by the Washington Post as a copy boy, then slowly worked his way up the ranks as reporter, desk man, and real estate editor. Jordan also wrote the column "Magazine Rack" for five years and sometimes filled in as the columnist for "On the Town." Leaving the newspaper in 1962, he moved on to the National Geographic, where he traveled the world, reporting, most notably, on the Soviet Union. He was promoted to senior editor in 1976, and then senior assistant editor of special projects at the magazine, before retiring in 1986. Jordan was the author of the book The Civil War (1969).
