Born February 12, 1909, in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England; died January 11, 2007, in Nacton, Suffolk, England; father a greengrocer; married first wife, Beryl; divorced; married second wife, Catherine; children: two sons, one daughter. Education: Studied architecture in London during the early 1930s; attended London University.

CAREER:

Writer and philosopher. Practiced architecture in England and India; director and writer for television program Eco 4 the World, 2006. Military service: Became major in the British Army; officer with Royal Engineers during World War II.
