SIDELIGHTS: Ricky K. Green told CA: "I am an assistant professor at California State University—Sacramento. Currently I teach in the ethnic studies department and the government department. My areas of research include culture and ethics of the black diaspora, democratic thought, and ancient political thought. For the most part my writing is centered around those research interests. My first work, Democratic Virtue in the Trial and Death of Socrates: Resistance to Imperialism in Classical Athens, came out of my interest in ancient Greek political philosophy and democracy. My current work is a combination of my interests in African-American culture and political experience and democratic thought. I credit James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Chester Himes, and Maya Angelou with influencing not only my writing style but my subject matter."
