SIDELIGHTS: M. Joseph Gordon, Jr. told CA: "I began my first book from seminars that I presented on quality assurance for the injection molding field. My other works were written directly from my knowledge and experience in the design of plastic projects and Six Sigma quality and lean manufacturing. I wrote to mentor others in the fields where I spent my career.

"My writing process begins in longhand with an outline that progresses to a first draft. Then I type it into the computer, editing all the time until I have a manuscript that tells the information I want to convey. I do all my own charts and graphs on the computer. My first drawings were done in pencil, as I was a drafter during my college days.

"My favorite book is my first, Total Quality Process Control for Injection Molding. This is an industry in constant change with knowledge moving up and usually out of the workplace as personal advance. What is needed is for this information to remain at the 'point of use' and continually taught to new and existing employees. Process control is required for product quality as the two go together in all business and manufacturing operations.

"My writing style is intended to inform and present information that others can use in real time for their work. I hope this will prove correct."
