SIDELIGHTS: Brad Geagley has worked in the entertainment industry for a number of years as a film producer and screenwriter. While employed as a producer for Disney Feature Animation, he worked on films such as Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. He has also worked as a senior producer and creative director of Disney Quest, a division of Disney Regional Entertainment that designs virtual-reality theme parks. Geagley is the creator of Serpentine Productions, a company that produced plays, screenplays, television series, and documentaries.

In 2005 Geagley published his first novel, Year of the Hyenas. The main character is Semerket, a failing, alcoholic investigator living in ancient Egypt. He is called upon to solve the case of a murdered priestess, a task his employers hope he will fail at. Rising to the challenge, Semerket delves deep into the case and discovers a conspiracy to overthrow Pharaoh Ramses III.

Year of the Hyenas received warm reviews upon its release. Critics found merit in Geagley's use of historical facts to augment the story surrounding a fictional tale. "It's a solid, fast-paced mystery that's never overwhelmed by the author's research," observed David Pitt in a review for Booklist. Others thought fans of historical and mystery novels would be drawn to Geagley's writing. The book has a "historically motivated plot and authentic, rich cultural detail" that will win over many fans, according to Library Journal contributor Rex E. Klett.
