Given name is sometimes spelled "Jessie"; born 1889, on Cattaraugus Reservation, NY; died 1957.
CAREER:
Illustrator, painter, and carver. Long House, ritual chief; chief of village of New Town; also teacher and singer at tribal ceremonies; toured as dancer and singer. Exhibitions: Work represented in a traveling exhibition of the Museum of the American Indian, 1982; work collected at National Museum of the American Indian, New York State Museum, and Rochester Museum of Arts and Sciences. Military service: Served during World War I; received Purple Heart.
