SIDELIGHTS: Guy Cogeval has directed and curated many illustrious exhibits at various museums in France, winning the medal of honor from the French government in 2001. He currently resides as director of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. His latest work, Édouard Vuillard is a comprehensive catalog on the artist. Cogeval had organized Vuillard's exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and subsequently the show at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Cogeval is the principal author of Vuillard's catalog, Vuillard: Master of the Intimate Interior. According to Sanford Schwartz, writing for the New York Review of Books, "The point of the show and of its catalog, which approaches telephone directory size, is that everything Édouard Vuillard did is of considerable importance." In a review for Booklist Donna Seaman noted, "Cogeval . . . and his international cast of contributors, strike just the right balance between aesthetics, art history, and biography."
