SIDELIGHTS: Audrey Brassloff, a scholar of Iberian linguistics and religion, published two books in the 1990s. In 1991Brassloff teamed with Wolfgang Brassloff to edit European Insights: Postwar Politics, Society, Culture, an examination of the various issues that have affected the European continent since the end of World War II. The book is a comprehensive analysis, not focused on a single issue or nation, and deals with political and economic issues, literature, social changes, and the effects of the media. Brassloff begins the book with an introductory chapter on the various European economic developments since the war. The editors further dissect these themes based on the specific national or regional effects on France, Italy, Spain, and the German-speaking regions of Europe. Although they discuss historical issues, the editors claim to do so only to illustrate the present condition of Europe, and, in certain circumstances, to predict what lies ahead. Richard Jurasek, a critic for the Modern Language Journal, offered a mixed review of European Insights. Although he called the effort "ambitious and wide-ranging," Jurasek felt that "the final effect is scattered and diffuse" and that it would not provide much new material for experts on the covered themes and nations.
In 1998 Brassloff published Religion and Politics in Spain: The Spanish Church in Transition, 1962-96.
