Zweers, Bernard, Dutch composer; b. Amsterdam, May 18, 1854; d. there, Dec. 9, 1924. He studied at the Amsterdam Cons., and later in Leipzig with Jadassohn. Returning to the Netherlands, he became a prof, of theory at the Amsterdam Cons. (1895). He wrote 3 syms., Kroningscantate for Soprano, Tenor, Chorus, and Orch., St. Nicolasfeest, children’s cantata, Kosmos (Psalm 104) for Chorus and Orch., Ons Hollandsch for Men’s Chorus and Orch., church music, and songs.
