Zouhar, Zdeněk

Zouhar, Zdeněk, Czech composer and teacher; b. Kotvrdovice, Feb. 8, 1927. He was a pupil in Bratislava (1946-51) of Blazek and Kunz before settling in Brno, where he studied with Schaefer at the Janácek Academy of Music (1965-67) and pursued his education at the Univ. (Ph.D., 1962). After serving as head of the music dept. of the Univ. library (1953-61), he taught at the Janácek Academy of Music (from 1962). His music makes multifarious use of modern techniques, including a fairly orthodox dodecaphony.
