Zieh, Otakar
Zieh, Otakar, Czech composer and musicologist, father of Jaroslav Zieh:; b Králové Mëstec, March 25, 1879; d. Oubënice, near Benesov, July 9, 1934. He studied mathematics at the Univ. of Prague (Ph.D., 1901), and also received training in musicology from Hostinsky and in composition from Stecker (1897-1901); completed his Habilitation at the Univ. of Prague in 1911. After teaching in a secondary school in Domazlice (from 1901), he was made prof, of philosophy at the Univ. of Brno in 1919. From 1924 he was prof, of aesthetics at the Univ. of Prague.
