Zagwijn, Henri

Zagwijn, Henri, Dutch composer and teacher; b. Nieuwer-Amstel, July 17, 1878; d. The Hague, Oct. 23, 1954. He was basically autodidact as a composer. In 1916 he became a teacher at the Rotterdam School of TVTnsir With fípm DrpsHpn hp fnnnHpd thp Sor. of Modern Composers of the Netherlands in 1918. From 1931 he taught at the Rotterdam Cons. He was a follower of Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophic movement and publ. De muziek in het licht der anthroposophie(Rotterdam, 1925). He also publ. a biography of Debussy (The Hague, 1940). In his music, Zagwijn was particularly influenced by the French school.
