Vysloužil, Ji?í
Vysloužil, Ji?í distinguished Czech musicologist; b. Košice, May 11,1924. He studied musicology with Jan Racek and Bohumír Št?dro?, philosophy with Arnošt Bláha and Mirko Novák, and history with Josef Ma-cûrek at the Univ. of Brno (Ph.D, 1949, with the diss. Problèmy a metody hudebniho lidopisu[Problems and Methods of Music Ethnography]. Vysloužil also received a C.Sc, 1959, with the diss. Leoš Janá?ek a lidova pisen[Leos Janá?ek and Folk Song] and a D.Sc, 1974, with the diss. Alois Haba;publ, in Prague, 1974). He worked at the Dept. for Ethnography and Folklore in Brno until 1952; after serving as a lecturer and vice-dean at the Brno Academy (1952-61), in 1961 he joined the faculty of the Univ. of Brno, where he became a prof, in 1973. He served as head of the editorial board of the complete critical ed. of the works of Janá?ek, which commenced publication in Prague in 1978. He publ. Hudobnici 20. storo?ia (Musicians of the 20thCentury; Bratislava, 1964; 2nded., 1981), Leoš Janá?ek (Brno, 1978), and Leoë Janâëek: Für Sie porträtiert von Jirí Vyslouzil (Leipzig, 1981).
