Vignas, Francisco

Vignas, Francisco, noted Spanish tenor; b. Moya, near Barcelona, March 27, 1863; d. Barcelona, July 14, 1933. He studied at the Barcelona Cons, and later in Paris. He made his debut in Barcelona in 1888 as Lohengrin and later sang in Italian opera houses. He made his first appearance in London in 1893 at the Shaftesbury Theatre. On Nov. 29, 1893, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Turiddu; after only one season there, he returned to Europe.
