Veretti, Antonio

Veretti, Antonio, Italian composer and music educator; b. Verona, Feb. 20, 1900; d. Rome, July 13, 1978. After initial training in Verona, he studied with Mattioli and Aliano at the Bologna Liceo Musicale (graduated, 1921). He then founded his own Cons. Musicale della Gioventù Italiana in Rome, which he directed until 1943; subsequently was director of the Pesaro Cons. (1950-52), the Cagliari Cons. (1953-55), and the Florence Cons. (1956-70). While his music generally followed Italian modernist traditions, he later experimented with serial techniques.
