Venegas de Henestrosa, Luis, Spanish organist and composer; b. Henestrosa, Burgon, c. 1510; d. Toledo, c. 1557. He was in the service of Cardinal Juan Ta vera in Toledo (c. 1534-45), and also a priest in Hontova (1543). He publ, the oldest known Spanish book of organ music, Libro de cifra nueva para tecla, harpa y vihuela (Alcalá de Henares, 1557; ed. by H. Anglès, Monumentos de la Música Espanola, II, 1944), which contains organ pieces by Palero, P. Vila, Soto, Venegas himself, et al, pieces for vihuela, transcriptions of sacred works by Morales, Josquin, Soto, et al., and solo songs with instrumental accompaniment. The book is written in Spanish organ tablature.
