Vaughan Thomas, David, Welsh organist, teacher, and composer; b. Ystelyfera, March 15,1873; d. Johannesburg, Sept. 15, 1934. He won the solo harmonium competition at the National Eisteddfod in 1883. After training from Joseph Parry in Swansea, he attended Llandovery Coll. and then took courses in music and mathematics at Exeter Coll., Oxford (B.A., 1895; B.Mus., 1907; D.Mus., 1909). He pursued a career as a church organist, recitalist, and teacher. He was an accomplished composer of choral music and songs. Among his other works were orch. pieces, chamber music, and piano pieces.
