Valverde, Joaquin (b Badajoz, 1846; d Madrid, 1910). Sp. composer, conductor, and flautist. Played fl. in th. orchs. 1859–71, then cond. 1871–91. Wrote over 30 zarzuelas and songs, incl. the popular Clavelitos (Carnations), and over 200 instr. works.
