Valenti, Fernando

Valenti, Fernando, noted American harpsichordist and teacher; b. N.Y., Dec. 4, 1926; d. Red Bank, N.J., Sept. 6, 1990. He studied piano with José Iturbi, then attended Yale Univ., where he took instruction in harpsichord with Ralph Kirkpatrick. He made his N.Y. recital debut in 1950. In 1951 he was appointed prof, of harpsichord at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y; also taught at various other academic institutions. He publ, the book The Harpsichord: A Dialogue for Beginners (1982). His performances of the music of Domenico Scarlatti were highly praised.
