Toldrá, Eduardo
Toldrá, Eduardo, Catalan violinist, conductor, and composer; b. Villanueva y Geltru, Catalonia, April 7, 1895; d. Barcelona, May 31, 1962. He studied violin and composition at Barcelona’s municipal music school. He made his debut as a soloist at the Barcelona Ateneo (1912), then was founder-lst violinist of the Quartet Renaixement (1912-21). In 1921 he became a prof, of violin at Barcelona’s municipal music school; in 1944, was appointed conductor of the Municipal Orch. He composed the comic opera El giravolt de Maig (Barcelona, 1928), orch. pieces, chamber music, and songs.
