Tagliapietra, Gino

Tagliapietra, Gino, Italian pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Ljubljana, May 30, 1887; d. Venice, Aug. 8, 1954. He studied piano with Julius Epstein in Vienna and with Busoni in Berlin. In 1906 he was appointed to the faculty of the Liceo Benedetto Marcello in Venice; retired in 1940. His compositions include a fiaba musicale, La bella addormentata (Venice, March 11, 1926), Piano Concerto (1913), Variazioni a fantasia for Piano and Strings (1930), Requiem (1923), and various choral works, Violin Sonata (1937), songs, many piano pieces, and various didactic works. He ed. Antologia di musica antica e moderna per il pianoforte (Milan, 1931-32) and Raccolta di composizioni dei secoli XVI e XVII (Milan, 1937).
