St.Clair, Carl
St. Clair, Carl, American conductor; b. Hoccheim, Tex., June 5, 1952. He studied opera and orch. conducting with Walter Ducloux at the Univ. of Tex. in Austin, and later worked with Bernstein and Masur. After servingas a conducting fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center (summer, 1985), he was asst. conductor of the Boston Sym. Orch. from 1986 to 1990. He also was music director of the Ann Arbor (Mich.) Sym. Orch. (1985–92) and of the Cayuga Chamber Orch. in Ithaca, N.Y. (1986–91). In 1990 he won the NEA/Seaver Conducting Award. From 1990 he was music director of the Pacific Sym. Orch. in Santa Ana, Calif. He also appeared as a guest conductor throughout North American, Europe, and the Far East.
