Soudant, Hubert
Soudant, Hubert, Dutch conductor; b. Maastricht, March 16, 1946. He studied trumpet and horn at the Maastricht Cons., and then pursued training in conducting with Fournet and Ferrara. After serving as asst. conductor with the Netherlands Radio in Hilversum (1967–70), he took first prize in the Besançon Competition in 1971, second prize in the Karajan Competition in 1973, and first prize in the Cantelli Competition in Milan in 1975. From 1981 to 1983 he was chief conductor of the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France in Paris. He became music director of the Utrecht Sym. Orch. in 1982, and then of the Orch. Sinfonica dell’Emilia Romagna “Arturo Toscanini” in Parma in 1988. In 1995 he became music director of the Mozarteum Orch. in Salzburg and of the Orchestre Philharmonique des Pays de la Loire in Angers.
