Smirnov, Dmitri (Alexeievich) (b Minsk, 1948). Russian composer. Editor in publishing-house Sovetsky Kompositor, 1973–80. Several of his works are inspired by poetry and painting of Blake. Married to composer Elena Firsova. Settled in Eng. 1991. Joint composer-in-residence (with Firsova), Keele Univ. from 1992. Comps. incl. 2 operas; Sym. No.1 (The Seasons) (1980); 2 pf. concs. (1971, 1978); vc. conc. (1992); many choral and vocal works; 3 str. qts.; 2 vn. sonatas; 3 pf. sonatas; and Magic Music Box, 50 pf. pieces for children (1993).
