Skram, Knut, Norwegian baritone; b. Saebo, Dec. 18, 1937. He was educated in Mont, and studied voice with George Buckee, in Wiesbaden with Paul Lohmann, in Rome with Luigi Ricci, and in Copenhagen with Kristian Riis. In 1964 he made his operatic debut at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo as Amonasro. After winning first prize in the Munich International Competition in 1967, he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Mozart’s Guglielmo in 1969, where he made return visits until 1976. From 1978 he sang at the Spoleto Festival. In 1979 he made his U.S. debut as Papageno with the Ky. Opera in Louisville. He portrayed Eugene Onegin in Lyons in 1984. During the Berlin State Opera’s tour of Japan in 1987, he was engaged as Jochanaan. In 1988 he sang Pizzaro in Buenos Aires and Scarpia in Moscow. He appeared as Hans Sachs in Nice in 1992. In 1996 he sang the Wanderer in Siegfried in Oslo. As a concert artist, he appeared frequently as a lieder interpreter.
