Shaughnessy, Ed(win Thomas)
Shaughnessy, Ed(win Thomas), jazz drummer, composer; b. Jersey City, N.J., Jan. 29, 1929. In the late 1940s, he used two bass drums with Charlie Ventura’s Bop for the People band and also played with Charlie Parker. He worked with Duke Ellington for six weeks while Louis Bellson and Pearl Bailey went on honeymoon and also played with Charles Mingus, Teddy Charles, Booker Little, Gary McFarland, Gil Evans, and Oliver Nelson, among others. In the 1960s, he began doing studio work in N.Y. He was featured for many years in the Tonight Show band.
