Scriabine, Marina, Russian-French music scholar and composer, daughter of Alexander (Nikolaievich) Scriabin; b. Moscow, Jan. 30, 1911. After her father’s death, she lived with her mother in Kiev and Moscow; when her mother died, she went to Belgium to live with her maternal grandmother; in 1927 she settled in Paris. She studied at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs and designed art posters; studied theory with Leibow-itz. hi 1950 she joined the Radiodiffusion Française and worked in electronic techniques; composed a Suite radiophonique (1951); also a ballet, Bayalett (1952), and some chamber music. In 1967 she received a doctorate in aesthetics for her thesis Representation du temps et de Vintemporalité dans les arts plastiques figuratifs. She publ. Problèmes de la musique moderne (in collaboration with her uncle, Boris de Schloezer; Paris, 1959; also in Spanish, 1960), Le Langage musical (Paris, 1963), and Le Miroir du temps (Paris, 1973). She contributed the biographical entry on Scriabin for the Encyclopédie de la musique (Paris, 1961), and also wrote an introduction to Schloe-zer’s book on Scriabin, in French (Paris, 1975).
