Schütz, Gabriel
Schütz, Gabriel, German violist, cornet player, teacher, and composer; b. Lübeck, Feb. 1, 1633; d. Nuremberg, Aug. 9, 1710. He was a student of Nicolaus Bleyer in Lübeck. In 1656 he went to Nuremberg, where he won distinction as an instrumentalist and teacher. In 1658 he was made a probationary and in 1666 a permanent town musician. He composed various pieces for gamba.
