Sayve, Lambert de
Sayve, Lambert de, Flemish composer; b. Sayve, near Liège, 1548 or 1549; d. Linz, between Feb. 16 and 28, 1614. As a youth he went to Vienna, where he became a singer in the imperial chapel in 1562. In 1569 he became choirmaster at the monastery of Melk, near Linz, a post he retained until 1577 (made a trip to Spain in 1570–71). He was a tutor to the choirboys in the chapel of Archduke Karl in Graz (1577–82). He was named choirmaster of the chapel of Archduke Matthias of Austria in 1583, and returned to Vienna; became master of the imperial chapel in 1612. He publ. Sacrae symphoniae for 4 to 13 and 15 to 16 Voices (Klosterbruck, 1612) and wrote several motets, masses, and other sacred works. He also publ. Primo libro delle [24] canzoni a la napolitana for 5 Voices (Vienna, 1582) and (22) Teutsche Liedlein for 4 Voices (1602).
