Rydl, Kurt
Rydl, Kurt , Austrian bass; b. Vienna, Oct. 8, 1947. He received vocal training in Vienna and Moscow. In 1973 he made his operatic debut as Wagner’s Daland in Stuttgart. He became a member of the Vienna State Opera in 1976, where he sang such roles as Osmin, Rocco, King Marke, the Landgrave, Hagen, Méphis-tophélès, Zaccaria, and King Philip II. As a guest artist, he sang at the Salzburg Festival (1985; 1987–90), Bare-lona (1990), Milan’s La Scala (1990–91; 1998), Florence (1992), London’s Covent Garden (1995, 1997), and Trieste (1998).
